Kia’s Best Box Shaped Cars

Making box shaped cars should spell the end for any respectable manufacturer, buy despite this one manufacturer has managed to pull it off perfectly. Call it Korean intuition or call it Japanese design perfected for the global market, but they got the box car right, and they’re basically the only ones to do so.

The first sighting of the modern Kia box is the Soul, which came out as a concept in 2006, born out of Kia’s design studio in California. The box shape stuck, and soon became one of their best selling vehicles, overtaking other box cars sold in the US, like the Nissan Cube and the Scion xB.

The future of the brand hold a little bit more of the same. They recently launched the Kia Ray in Korea, a design that’s basically the same as a Japanse kei car.

In the future, the box shape will be used by a large MPV, previewed as the KV7 at the 2011 Detroit Motor Show. Another upcoming box car is a sportier version of the Soul, previewed as the Track’ster.
